John Howard Enters Fourth Term as Prime Minister
Within three hours of the close of voting, and starting with early trends, it was quickly apparent who would lead the Australian Government.
Australian Prime Minister John Howard has won a fourth term in the federal elections held on October 9 as his party, the Liberal Party, in coalition with the National Party, swept back into government by winning more than half the 150 seats in the Australian House of Represantives.
Opposition Leader Mark Latham of the Australian Labor Party conceded the election at 9.40pm.
