Sydney: 'World's Best City'
Wednesday July 13, 2005
For the eighth time in 10 years, Sydney has been named the world's best city by the international travel magazine Travel + Leisure. Cities were evaluated by their sights, culture and arts, restaurants and food, people, shopping and value by the magazine's 900,000 subscribers.
The announcement was made on NBC's Today show yesterday, Sydney time.
Sydney has won the distinction of being the best city in the world every year for the past 10 years except in 2000, when it lost to San Francisco, and 2001 when Florence took the prize.
Following Sydney in the best city stakes this year are Bangkok, Rome, Florence, and Chiang Mai.
Bali was named top island destination.
The results of the Travel + Leisure survey will be published in the magazine's August issue. Travel + Leisure is published by American Express Publishing Corp.
