Cecil Beaton in Canberra
Wednesday August 31, 2005
Something to remember on your visit to Canberra: More than 150 distinctive portraits captured on film by celebrated photographer Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) go on show at the National Portrait Gallery from September 16 to November 27. Beaton, of course, was official photographer to the Queen, and is renowned for his images of elegance, glamour and style. His impressive, moody, introspective portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Mick Jagger are among the best of his photographic art. Last year was the centenary of Beaton's birth.
