Strong Push for Queensland's First Legal Nude Beach

Tuesday October 25, 2005
Queensland is moving towards establishing its first legal nude beach, which may be located near Bundaberg north of Noosa on the state's Sunshine Coast and just west of the northern tip of Fraser Island across Hervey Bay. Coonar Beach, which a Free Beach Australia spokesperson said had been used as a de facto nude beach for more than 10 years now, is being proposed. "We're the only state in Australia not to have one [a legal nude beach] – the first was in South Australia 30 years ago," the spokesperson added.

Brisbane newspaper The Courier Mail reported that submissions on the matter were being sought.

Australia's first legal nude beach is Maslin Beach in South Australia. The beach is located south of Adelaide.

(1) Marion Marshall says:

If you care to check with the Burnett Shire Council, you will find that Coonarr Beach ( under their control), is definitely not being considered as a nudist beach, after the overwhelming results of submissions against such a proposal in 2005. The people of Bundaberg and surrounding district, do not wish to have to contend with this objectionable behaviour on any of the family orintated beaches .
