Sydney's Westlink M7 Opens
Friday December 16, 2005
Sydney's new orbital tollway, the Westlink M7, opens in stages throughout today and should be fully open to traffic by tonight. Use of the new tollway, part of the Sydney Metroads system, is free for one month until January 15. After the period of free access, vehicles using the Westlink M7 must have e-Tags or e-Passes under the totally cashless electronic toll system.
A 40-kilometre tollway, the Westlink M7 connects with the M5 at Prestons, M4 at Eastern Creek and M2 at Baulkham Hills with two lanes in each direction.
With fully electronic tolling there will be no cash booths and vehicles must not stop or slow down through the toll points. Tolls will be computed per tollway section passed with a maximum toll of $5.93. Short trips start at 40¢.
A cycleway and walking path run along the length of the Westlink M7.
The Westlink M7 is part of the Sydney Metroads system.
