Australian Open: Men's No 9 Seed Loses to American

Men's No 9 seed Fernando Gonzalez (Chile) lost to unseeded Alex Bogomolov Jr (US) in the first round of the men's singles on the second day of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park. Gonzalez lost in five sets, 6-4, 6-7, 3-6, 7-6, 5-7. His loss, and elimination from the Open, followed those of women's singles No 9 and No 10 seeds, Elena Dementieva (Russia) and Wimbledon champion Venus Williams (US) on the first day of the Open.
