Australian Open defending champion and No 13 seed in the current tournament Serena Williams (USA) has been eliminated in the third round, losing to No 17 seed Daniela Hantuchova (Slovakia), 1-6. 6-7.
Men's No 8 Seed Exits Tournament
2004 French Open champion and No 8 seed Gaston Gaudio (Argentina) has been eliminated from the Australian Open with a 5-set defeat to unseeded Fabrice Santoro (France), 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 4-6, in the third round at Melbourne Park today. Of the men's top 10 seeds, seven remain in competition.
