Men's No 2 seed Andy Roddick (USA) has lost to unseeded Marcos Baghdatis (Cyprus), 4-6, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, in the fourth round of the Australian Open on Day 7, January 22. Roddick was last year's Wimbledon runner-up and Australian Open semi-finalist. Baghdatis was eliminated in the fourth round of the Australian Open last year.

Women's No 1 seed Lindsay Davenport (USA) has defeated No 14 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia), 6-2, 6-4, in the fourth round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park and now progresses to the women's singles quarter-finals. Ranked world No 1, Davenport was runner-up at Wimbledon and the Australian Open last year. Kuznetsova was in the quarter-finals of both tournaments last year.
Men's No 4 seed David Nalbandian (Argentina) defeated No 16 seed Tommy Robredo (Spain), 6-3, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2, in the fourth round and now progresses to the men's singles quarter-finals. Nalbandian was a quarter-finalist in last year's Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon. Robredo was in the quarter finals of last year's French Open.
Women's No 4 seed Maria Sharapova (Russia) defeated No 17 seed Daniela Hantuchova (Slovakia), 6-4, 6-4, in the fourth round and now progresses to the women's singles quarter-finals. Sharapova was a semi-finalist in last year's Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon.
Women's No 6 seed Nadia Petrova (Russia) has defeated unseeded compatriot Elena Vesnina, 6-3, 6-1, in the fourth round and now progresses to the women's singles quarter-finals. Petrova was 2005 French Open semi-finalist and Wimbledon and US Open quarter-finalist.
Men's No 7 seed Ivan Ljubicic (Croatia) defeated No 10 seed Thomas Johansson (Sweden) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4, in the fourth round and progresses to the men's singles quarter-finals.
Women's No 8 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne (Belgium) has defeated unseeded Virginia Ruano Pascual (Spain), 6-0, 6-3, in the fourth round and now progresses to the women's singles quarter-finals. Henin-Hardine is last year's French Open champion.
Of the top 10 seeded players in the men's singles, only four — Roger Federer (Switzerland), David Nalbandian (Argentina), Nikolay Davydenko (Russia) and Ivan Ljubicic (Croatia) — remain in the competition. Of the top 10 seeded players in the women's singles, seven remain.
