Australian Open: Davenport
Fails in Quarter-Finals

Women's No 1 seed Lindsay Davenport (USA) lost to No 8 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne (Belgium), 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open on Day 9 at Melbourne Park. Henin-Hardenne advances to the semi-finals.

  • Men's No 4 seed David Nalbandian (Argentina) defeated unseeded French player Fabrice Santoro, 7-5, 6-0, 6-0, in the first men's quarter-final match of the Australian Open and advances to the semi-finals.

  • Women's No 4 seed Maria Sharapova (Russia), defeated fellow Russian and No 6 seed Nadia Petrova, 7-6, 6-4, in the quarter-finals, and advances to the semi-finals.
