A marathon five-setter lasting four hours and 48 minutes, including angry words from both sides of the net and a racket-throwing incident, saw men's No 21 seed Nicolas Kiefer (Germany) through to the semi-finals by defeating No 25 seed Sebastian Grosjean (France), 6-3, 0-6, 6-4, 6-7, 8-6, in the quarter-finals on Day 10 of the Australian Open played at Melbourne Park. The Kiefer-Grosjean match set a record as the longest match at Melbourne Park in 15 years.
Federer Defeats Davydenko in Four Sets...
Wimbledon and US Open champion and Australian Open men's No 1 seed Roger Federer (Switzerland) defeated No 5 seed Nikolay Davydenko (Russia), 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6, in the quarter-finals and advances to the semi-finals.
Women's No 2 seed Kim Clijsters (Belgium) defeated unseeded Martina Hingis (Switzerland), 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, in the quarter-finals and advances to the semi-finals.
Women's No 3 seed Amelie Mauresmo (France) defeated No 7 seed Patty Schnyder (Switzerland), 6-3, 6-0, in the quarter-finals and advances to the semi-finals.
