Australian Open: Mauresmo
Wins Women's Singles Final

For the second time in a row, women's No 3 seed Amelie Mauresmo (France) went on to win a major tennis match, this time the women's singles championship final in the Australian Open at Melbourne Park. Her opponent in the match, No 8 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne (Belgium) retired in the second set of the final due to illness, with the score at 6-1, 2-0, favoring Mauresmo. Her opponent in the semi-final, No 2 seed Kim Clijsters (Belgium), also retired from the match due to injury in the middle of the third set on January 26.
