Another 1-2-3 for Australia in Swimming

Australian swimmer Libby Lenton smashed the previous Commonwealth Games record in the 100m women's freestyle event when she finished first in tonight's 100m freestyle final at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. It was another 1-2-3 win for Australia with defending champion Jodie Henry coming second and Alice Mills third.
In the women's 200m breaststroke event, Aussie swimmer Leisel Jones won the gold medal, with Scotland's Kirsty Balfour second and Suzaan van Biljon of South Africa third.
In the women's 100m backstroke final, Aussie Sophie Eddington won gold with a new Games record of 1:00.93. Fellow Aussie and swim team captain Giaan Rooney took silver, and England's Melanie Marshall bronze.
Freestyle relay
In the women's swimming 4x200m freestyle relay, Australia was first, England second and New Zealand third.
The Australian team comprised Lisbeth Lenton, Bronte Barratt, Kelly Stubbins and Linda Mackenzie.
In the English team were Joanne Jackson, Kate Richardson, Juia Beckett and Melanie Marshall.
New Zealand was represented by Lauren Boyle, Helen Norfolk, Alison Fitch and Melissa Ingram.
EAD freestye
Australia's Matthew John Cowdry won the Elite Athletes with a Disability (EAD) 50m men's freestyle swimming event, with Benoit Huot of Canada second and Matthew Benedict Walker of England third.
The swimming program includes EAD events in the men's and women's 50m and 100m freestyle.
Gymnastics
Australia's Joshua Jefferis won the men's all-around artistic gymnastics final with fellow Australian Philippe Rizzo third. Winning silver was Nathan Gafuik of Canada.
Australia's Chloe Sims won the women's all-around final with Canada's Elyse Hopfner Hibbs coming in second and Australia's Holly Dykes third.
Cycling
Australia's Ryan Bayley won his second gold medal of the Commonwealth Games when he dashed to victory in the sprint final today.
This is Bayley's second gold medal in the current Games, having won the keirin on Friday.
In second and third place were Scotland's Ross Edgar and Canada's Travis Smith respectively.
Weightlifting
Australia’s Ben Turner has snatched victory in the men’s 69kg weightlifting event. With a total weight of 294kg, he lifed 128kg in the snatch and 166kg in the clean and jerk.
Malaysia’s Muhammad Hidayat and India’s Sudhir Kumar Chitradurga finished second and third respectively.
Medals tally
In the medals tally Australia led with 23 gold, 15 silver and 18 bronze, followed by England with 8 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze, and India with 7 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.
