New Obarzanek Work Dances
into Melbourne's Arts House
Wednesday May 10, 2006
A new choreographic work by Melbourne-born Gideon Obarzanek is at Arts House, North Melbourne Town Hall, from May 12 to 28. The new work, Singularity, is being staged by Chunky Move, the dance company he formed with another choreographer, Garry Stewart.
Originally Sydney-based, Chunky Move relocated to Melbourne in 1997 as Victoria's official modern dance company.
Obarzanek's work is often seen as taking popular culture as inspiration with pulp fiction and cartoon animation influencing his choreography.
Arts House, North Melbourne Town Hall, is at 521 Queensberry St, North Melbourne. Tickets for Singularity at $25 and $18 (Real Steal Saturdays at $15) can be booked on (03) 9639 0096 or at easytix.com.au/artshouse.
