It's Goodbye to the Sydney to Devonport Ferry Service
Tuesday August 22, 2006
The overnight ferry service between Sydney and Devonport, Tasmania, ends with the final voyage from Sydney of Spirit of Tasmania III on August 27.
The ferry — one of three vessels operated by the government-owned TT-Line — is said to have suffered massive losses in the face of cut-price airline fares and rising fuel costs since its maiden voyage on the route in January 2004.
Spirit of Tasmania III's final voyage arrives in Devonport on August 28. The ferry will then be sold.
