Terri Irwin and the children were holidaying at Cradle Mountain, Tasmania, when Steve Irwin died. It is reported that Steve Irwin had not been in contact with his family for a week while he was filming the documentary off Port Douglas due to the absence of telecommunications signals reaching mobile phones in the area.Steve Irwin: Crocodile Hunter (1962-2006)
Trekking in the Tasmanian wilderness and out of range for a telephone call, Terri Irwin was able to get a text message — "The children send their love" — through on Father's Day, September 3, the day before Steve Irwin died. The Crocodile Hunter had not been able to speak with his children on Father's Day.
The bereaved family returned to Queensland as soon as they could.

Good biography, Larry, thanks for that!
We are absolultely gutted. What a loss. Steve was a truly great Australian. His genuine devotion to our wildlife will be sorely missed.
We just heard the news. We all send our condolences to the Irwin family. It is a great loss. We were all amazed w/the Australia Zoo in June/2004 when we visited on our vacation. Our prayers are w/the Irwin’s.
We also just heard the news, and are shocked. Our condolences to the entire Irwin family as they try to deal with their loss. Hopefully, the fact that Steve’s passion for life was so easily transfered to anyone who watched him do what he loved, will help them. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
