Memorial Service for Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin
Thursday September 14, 2006
A memorial service was scheduled to celebrate the life of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin on Wednesday, September 20, at Australia Zoo on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
Irwin's family decided against holding a large-scale memorial service at a 50,000-seat Brisbane stadium in favor of a smaller, more intimate event at Australia Zoo.
"I cannot see how a memorial service for Steve would work in any other place other than the Crocoseum, which he built here at the zoo and of which he was so proud,'' Irwin's widow Terri said.
Three thousand free tickets to the memorial service were to be made available from Australia Zoo and from Ticketek booking agencies in Brisbane and Maroochydore from Friday, September 15.
Aussie country singer John Williamson would perform Irwin's favorite song, True Blue, during the public memorial.
The memorial service would start at 9am, Australian eastern standard time, and would be telecast not only in Australia but also in other parts of the globe.
