Ingvall Yacht Knocked out of Race
Thursday December 21, 2006
A leading line honors contender in this year's Sydney Hobart Yacht Race has been knocked out of the bluewater classic.
Ludde Ingvall's boat, the 90ft maxi Diabetes, was dismasted in the afternoon of December 20. There seemed little to no chance of finding a replacement mast for a boat that size before the start of the race on December 26.
Ingvall skippered the 80ft maxi Nicorette to a line honors win in the 2000 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. He repeated his line honors achievement with the identically named 90-footer Nicorette in the 2004 Sydney to Hobart.
His new boat, Diabetes, was expected to be a leading contender in this year's race. The boat was named Diabetes to raise awareness of the disease. Ingvall was diagnosed with diabetes this year.
