Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

Within about 12 minutes of the start of this year's Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, last year's winner, Wild Oats XI, was first to reach the seaward mark, sail through the Heads, and start heading south to Hobart.

Seventy-eight boats lined for the start in Sydney Harbour at 1pm, December 26, Australian eastern daylight saving time.

Following Wild Oats XI were Skandia, Maximus, ABN AMRO One and Ichi Ban.

Last year's race: Wild Oats XI wins the treble.
