A First Experience of Melbourne
Saturday April 21, 2007
If you're a first-time visitor to Melbourne, wander down to Federation Square and, mate, have a stickybeak at the visitor centre, then discover the galleries and other attractions within the Federation Square complex.
Across Flinders St on one side is the imposing St Paul's Cathedral. Across Swanston St on the other side is busy Flinders St Station.
If you have time for a leisurely stroll, walk south down Swanston St and cross the bridge to the Melbourne Arts Centre. Here you'll find the National Gallery of Victoria housing outstanding international art, a concert hall and performing arts venues.
From here it's a walk down to Southbank and a riverside promenade alongside indoor and al fresco restaurants and cafes and other places of interest, including the Crown Casino Entertainment Complex at the western end of the walk.
And, yes, there's more to see, do and experience in Melbourne.
