Endeavour in Botany Bay
for Meeting of Two Cultures

Saturday April 28, 2007
The replica of Captain James Cook's HMB Edeavour arrives today in Botany Bay and will remain moored offshore as an historical backdrop to the Meeting of Two Cultures tomorrow, April 29, on the 237th anniversary of Cook's 1770 landing in Australia. The ceremony at Botany Bay National Park begins at 10am and includes a "Welcome to Country" by elders of the Dharawal tribe, the local indigenous people.

Wreath-laying ceremony

Sutherland Shire, in which the national park is located, will be represented by Shire Mayor David Redmond who will join the Dharawal elders in a wreath-laying ceremony.

The Endeavour sails from Botany Bay in the evening and ship and crew will then re-trace Cook's voyage from Botany Bay along the east coast of New South Wales, and then return to its home berth at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour.

Back to the museum

The Endeavour will re-open to the public at the museum on May 3. The museum is open daily from 9.30am to 5pm. Admission is charged to visit the museum’s vessels, including the replica HMB Endeavour. Sailings on the Endeavour are available. All inquiries to 02-9298-3777.
