No, It's Not the Opera House
Just north of Melbourne city centre along the route of the free City Circle tram, discover Australia's first World Heritage building, the Royal Exhibition Building, and Carlton Gardens on which it stands.
Australia has two World Heritage buildings, Melbourne's Royal Exhibition Building and Sydney Opera House. Sydney's iconic opera house, designed by Danish architect Joern Utzon, was accorded World Heritage status only in June this year.
Guided tours of the Royal Exhibition Building are available from the adjacent Melbourne Museum.
