Indigenous Art Exhibition Marks National Gallery Anniversary
Saturday October 13, 2007
The works of 30 Indigenous artists from across Australia go on display today at the National Gallery of Australia to mark the 25th year of its existence.
Located by Lake Burley Griffin at the base of Canberra's Parliamentary Triangle, the National Gallery of Australia was officially opened 25 years ago by Queen Elizabeth II.
The Indigenous art exhibition, Culture Warriors, comprises a mix of traditional and modern works including those with controversial themes.
Not only does the exhibition mark the Gallery's 25th anniversary but also the 40th annniversary of the 1967 referendum commemorated earlier this year with several events including the play Never Turning Back in Adelaide.
The Indigenous art exhibition at the National Gallery continues until February 10, 2008.
A night-time show with large-format projections dresses up the National Gallery of Australia building until October 15.

This is wonderful. It would be great for those of us “up here” to view some of it via the web…it that possible? Thank you!
I have visited Australia…and love it!
