Daylight Saving Time in Australia and New Zealand

Sunday October 28, 2007
  • Daylight saving time is now in effect in Australia in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia, and in New Zealand.
  • Australia's Northern Territory and the state of Queensland do not observe daylight saving time.
Daylight saving time began today in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria, and returns to standard time on the first Sunday in April, which is April 6 next year.

Daylight saving time started today in Western Australia and ends on the last Sunday in March under a three-year trial ending in early 2009. A referendum will then be held to decide whether daylight saving time should become permanent in the state.

Tasmania started daylight saving time on October 7. It returns to standard time on April 6, 2008.

Starting in 2008, the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria will synchronise the daylight saving period, starting each year on the first Sunday of October and ending on the first Sunday of April.

In New Zealand daylight saving time started on September 30 this year, and returns to standard time on April 6, 2008.
