As of October 29, a total of 39 horses remained in contention for the Melbourne Cup after third declarations were made. This numbr will be reduced to the final 24.
Then it's on to November 6 for the running of the Cup.
The top 10 horses at RaceTAB's fixed odds listing on October 30 were Master O'Reilly, Purple Moon, Mahler, Zipping, Miss Finalnd, Gallic, Maybe Better, Efficient, Princess Coup and Eskimo Queen with odds of 18-1 or shorter.
Post-Melbourne Cup, the next two events in the carnival are Oaks Day on November 8 and Stakes Day on November 10.
