Australia's First Female Governor-General

Thursday September 4, 2008
For the first time in 107 years, Australia will have a woman appointed to the position of Governor-General when Governor-General-designate Quentin Bryce is sworn into office at Canberra's Australian Parliament House on September 5.

She takes over from Governor-General Michael Jeffery who retires on leaving office.

The new Australian Governor-General will be sworn in at Parliament's Senate Chamber in the morning.
