Maldivian Atones for Last Year's Caulfield Cup Failure, Wins This Year's Cox Plate
Saturday October 25, 2008
Six-year-old gelding Maldivian has won the $3 million Cox Plate run at Melbourne's Monee Valley Racecourse this afternoon, October 25, local time.
Maldivian, a $10 chance, beat popular second favorite Samantha Miss ($4.40) which finished third. Coming in second was the fast-finishing Zipping ($6). Top favorite Princess Coup ($4.20) was unplaced.
Maldivian was the raging favorite for the 2007 Caulfield Cup but was scratched at the barrier.
Zipping placed third in this year's Turnbull Stakes.
It will be interesting to see changes in the betting for the Melbourne Cup after the Cox Plate race has been thoroughly analysed.
