Revisiting the Blue
Saturday November 15, 2008
Well, they haven't moved. The Three Sisters, I mean. The other week, with my younger son and grandson in tow, we drove up the Blue Mountains, taking the M4 out of Sydney until it became the Great Western Highway in the mountain foothills.
Really it was planned to be more of a discovery tour for my grandson than a trip which my son and I had not taken before.
So, yes, we gazed at the rock formation that is the Three Sisters from the lookout at Katoomba, took the Skyway cablecar with its see-through floor, stayed overnight in Blackheath, then it was on to Jenolan Caves an hour's drive away.
For visitors to Sydney, the drive to the mountains should be an enjoyable break from the congestion of the city. And it's a drive always worth recommending, with possible stops in the Blue Mountains National Park, the Norman Lindsay Gallery at Faulconbridge, and the village of Leura.
With summer and warmer weather approaching, go cool, go blue.
