Australian Open - Longest Match Sees Nadal into Men's Singles Final

In the longest tennis match in Australian Open history, World No 1 Rafael Nadal defeated compatriot No 14 seed Fernando Verdasco, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. in the semi-final on the night of January 30, local time.

At five hours and 14 minutes, the match surpassed the 1991 Boris Becker-Omar Camporese marathon, which lasted five hours and 11 minutes.

The Nadal-Verdasco match lasted until way past 1am on January 31, local time.

Nadal meets No 2 seed Roger Federer (Switzerland) in the final on February 1.

Federer advanced to the men’s singles final after defeating Andy Roddick (US), 6-2, 7-5, 7-5, in their semi-final on Thursday night.
