Walk on the Ice in the Glaciers of New Zealand
Monday March 23, 2009
On the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island, between Greymouth in the north and Milford Sound in the south, are the exceedingly slowly moving massive rivers of ice that are the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. Both these glaciers are quite steep and the ice travels a long way before it melts. They provide an opportunity for hikes on the ice surface, ice climbing, skiing and explorations.
Just take care and follow all safety advice. Photo: Franz Josef Glacier flowing down the southern Alps, by Gareth Eyres, courtesy Tourism New Zealand
