Fancy an Anzac Biscuit?
Wednesday April 22, 2009
Whether you buy a homebaked Anzac biscuit from a veterans support organisation or a commercially-produced one, you'll be helping a soldier or a veteran somewhere.Anzac biscuits are part of the legend, history and story about Australian and New Zealand involvement in World War I, with Anzac biscuit sales contributing to the war effort and assisting war veterans.
Sold in many countries
Biscuit producers Unibic says their Anzac biscuits are now sold in many countries — directing a percentage of total sale proceeds to various war veterans and community support groups in the United Kingdom, Canada, United States and, of course, Australia and New Zealand.
In 2005, Unibic in India launched the Anzac biscuit pack, where 3 per cent of sales help to provide support to India's war widows, as well as Indian Jawans in need of artificial limbs.
Bake your own
Can't find Anzac biscuits in your supermarkets or shops? You can bake them yourself and at least get into the spirit of things.
