It's Spring, It's Spring, It's Spring
It's the first of September and the start of spring Down Under. The weather's warmer, the flowers are in bloom, and love is in the air, so goes the song.
It's Wattle Day in Australia, and we all know, of course, that the golden wattle is Australia's national flower. See the wattles in bloom at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney or at its Mt Annan gardens southwest of the city.
Flower festivals
In Perth, on the western side of the Australian continent, the Wildflower Festival begins today at Kings Park and Botanic Garden and runs until September 28.
In Canberra, the nation's capital, the annual Floriade takes place this year from September 12 to October 11.
Closer to Sydney, the New South Wales Southern Highlands celebrate spring with the Bowral Tulip Time Festival from September 24 to October 7 this year.
In Victoria, you may want to visit the Australian Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Cranbourne for uniquely Australian flora. Spring is wildflower season at the Cranbourne botanic gardens.
More spring festivals
September is the start of the popular Australian racing carnivals leading up to the running of the Melbourne Cup in Victoria.
In the Victorian town of Yackandandah, where the Australian movie Strange Bedfellows was filmed, the nine-day gay festival, Spring Migration, has begun.

Why in Australia the spring begins at 1º of sept instead the 21º as the meteorological men say? Thanks and apologize for my english
I’m so upset and jealous because it is now falling into winter in my part of the world (GB). The sun has done its rounds here and is now coming to bless you all for the next 6 months. Make the most of it because I’ll be counting the days, weeks…… months (boo hoo) until spring once again graces our country with her golden magical light. All envy put to one side though I really hope you have a wonderful spring and comfortable summer. Enjoy!!
Greetings from the UK
