Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker has announced that the death toll from yesterday's devastating earthquake now stands at 75. He said another 300 people are missing in the rubble of the shattered New Zealand city.
New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has declared a national state of emergency.
Search and rescue operations are continuing in the city.
Non-essential travel to Christchurch is being discouraged, particularly with rescue and recovery work taking place.
