Cataract Gorge in Launceston, Tasmania, lies just west of the city centre and, depending on where you start, could be as close as a 10-minute walk. With steep walls along the banks of the South Esk River as it enters the Tamar, the gorge has become a favorite place to visit for its walking tracks, picnic areas and, across First Basin, a chair lift which brings you into the Cliff Grounds Reserve west of the South Esk.
