Australian Open women's tennis singles defending champion and No 11 seed Kim Clijsters (Belgium) suffered an ankle injury in the first set of her Round 4 match against No 5 seed Na Li (China) this afternoon, January 22, at this year's Australian Open. Clijsters lost the first set 4-6.

Clijsters recovered sufficiently in the second set to salvage a losing match, eventually winning a tie-break against Na Li with a second set score of 7-6.

The Belgian persisted into the third set, finally winning in three sets, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.
