The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre in Katoomba, a sprawling modern complex housing an art gallery, library, World Heritage centre, viewing platform, restaurant and cafe, and a theatre yet to be completed, opened on Saturday, November 17, Australian eastern daylight saving time.
The cultural centre sits cheek by jowl with 130-year-old Carrington Hotel at the highest point of Katoomba town.
If you're in the Blue Mountains this weekend or sometime in the future, you may want to drop in at the cultural centre and see, among other things, the wealth of art that is on display, or even simply to view the expanse of Jamison Valley from the centre's viewing platform.
It takes from just about an hour and a half to two hours to drive up the mountains from Sydney, and it may surprise you to find what other attractions there are in the Blue Mountains.
