The Blue Mountains Scenic Railway — with its 52° slope from Scenic World's clifftop perch in Katoomba to the depths of the valley below — has closed.
But only for now.
The passenger carriage on the Scenic Railway had its last run on Sunday, January 13. The railway will be closed while redevelopment occurs and expects to reopen by Easter with new platforms at clifftop and valley floor, new tracks and new carriages.
The Scenic Railway is said to have carried 25 million passengers since 1945 and is one of the popular Scenic World rides.
