The 2013 AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) Awards, held in Sydney on January 30, recognised outstanding achievements in 2012 in film and television.
Winning the Best Film award, and 10 others besides, was The Sapphires, a critical and popular success and the highest grossing Australian film in 2012.
Acting awards went to The Sapphires' lead actress (Deborah Mailman), lead actor (Chris O'Dowd) and supporting actress (Jessica Mauboy).
Director Wayne Blair received the award for film direction.
The Sapphires tells the story of an indigenous girl band in the 1960s who gained fame with their music and went to Vietnam to entertain the troops.
