Unbeaten Aussie racehorse Black Caviar, a bay mare, won her 23rd consecutive metropolitan race in a 1000-metre event named in her honor, the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, in Melbourne in the afternoon of February 16.
Black Caviar had not raced since winning the Queen's Jubilee Stakes in England's Royal Ascot last year, but won handily at Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse by more than two lengths, with Moment of Change, second, and Golden Archer third.
Black Caviar broke the 25-year 1000m course record set by Special who recorded 55.50 seconds in winning the Lightning Stakes in 1988. Black Caviar ran the 1000m in 55.42 seconds.
