Regatta on Dry Riverbed

Yes, all manner of weird and wonderful watercraft are racing today on dry land in the celebrated yearly regatta, the Henley-on-Todd. The event takes place in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, in the Red Heart of Australia. The race is run on the dry, coarse sand of the waterless Todd River in support of various charities.

Auckland Arts Festival Opens

Today marks the opening of Auckland's first major arts festival, AK03, which runs until October 5. More than 60 events across a broad spectrum of the arts are scheduled during the festival.
