Built in stages through the 1800s, Lanyon Homestead — 30 kilometres south of Canberra city — comprises different buildings built through convict labor and later with the work of builders in the colonial era.

There is an Aboriginal canoe tree on the site which indicates earlier habitation by Australia's indigenous people. The Nolan Gallery, which exhibits works by noted Australian artist Sidney Nolan, is at Lanyon Homestead. There is a charge for admission into the buildings as well as for entry into the gallery.
