The Blue Mountains are just west of Sydney. Here's one guide to getting there from Sydney's Circular Quay to Echo Point at Katoomba. Join the route at any point.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 2 hours
Here's How:
- From Circular Quay, drive south on George St.
- Veer right into a westerly direction at Railway Square at the end of George St and into Broadway.
- Broadway then becomes Parramatta Rd. Continue west on Parramatta Rd.
- Remain on Parramatta Rd until Strathfield. Watch for turn-off sign into the M4 (Western) Motorway.
- Enter the M4 Motorway (which is a tollway) and pay your toll at the toll gates. The gates are marked for EziCard, exact cash in coins, or where change is given.
- Continue through the M4 until you've passed Penrith at the western edge of Sydney when the M4 becomes the Great Western Highway.
- You are now in Glenbrook in the lower Blue Mountains. Follow the Great Western Highway until you're close to Katoomba.
- Just outside Katoomba town centre, exit left at a traffic light over Yeaman Bridge which ends at a roundabout.
- After two blocks turn right into Lurline St.
- Veer left into Echo Point Dr at the Birdwood Ave intersection.
- Park where you can close to the Visitor Centre at Echo Point. Have coins for the parking meters.
- Hey, and there's the Three Sisters, the massive rock formation which rises from the floor of the valley and is one of the Blue Mountains' major attractions.
Tips:
- Stop at the Visitor Centre at Glenbrook for maps and guides.
- You may want to visit the Norman Lindsay Museum and Gallery by taking the turn-off at Faulconbridge.
- From Echo Pt, it's a short drive on Cliff Dr to the Scenic Skyway and Railway.
