Townsville, Queensland's third largest city, faces the sea on a traditonal route to Magnetic Island and parts of the Great Barrier Reef. A relaxed, tropical city, it lies at the base of red granite Castle Hill. The city centre provides a blend of modern architecture and historical buildings, carefully restored as landmarks of a bygone era.
