And so the new spires gleam in the sunlight on the twin towers of St Mary's Cathedral. This photograph was taken from north of the church on Macquarie St just outside the Hyde Park Barracks Museum |
Hyde Park, a sward of green in the heart of the city, is just to the right of this picture and extends from Queens Square in the north to Liverpool St at its southern end. St Mary's Cathedral, with its foundation stone first laid in 1868, is the mother church of Australian Catholicism.
