How to Get There

Parking is a problem at Kings Cross, but if you plan to drive anyway and are new to Australia, check out Driving in Australia for some basic information. But it's always better to come by taxi, bus, train, or on foot.

If coming by bus from whatever part of Sydney, check out bus routes and schedules for the most convenient way to the Cross.

If going by rail, take the Eastern Suburbs train to Edgecliff and Bondi; Kings Cross is the first stop outside the City Circle.

If coming on foot, Kings Cross is just about 15 minutes from Hyde Park -- have a look at a map, take William St and head towards the huge Coca Cola sign at the end, where Darlinghurst Rd begins.

Savor the atmosphere

Take time to savor the Kings Cross atmosphere, the press of the crowds, the colorful people, even the prostitutes at several corners or in front of some hotels. There may be a drunk or three, or some heavily tattooed character. No matter. These are the people of the Cross and there are people like them in every major city...

Take the walk through Darlinghurst Rd and perhaps stop at Fitzroy Gardens, the park at the end of the road where the spherical El Alamein Fountain stands.

Whatever you discover and experience at Kings Cross can certainly be a highlight of your Sydney visit.
