A sensitive conservation program at The Rocks has made sure new constructions blend skillfully and pleasingly with the materials and architecture of the past while providing modern-day facilities.
These include such buildings as the Park Hyatt Hotel which follows the curve of Campbells Cove from the warehouses which now house a variety of restaurants along West Circular Quay.
The Rocks is easy to reach -- by train (almost all Sydney suburban trains stop at Circular Quay), bus or ferry.
You could even walk it. But if you wanted to drive, parking is a problem on busy days.
Head north on George St
From the heart of Sydney, by car or by foot, one reaches The Rocks by going north on George St towards Sydney Harbour, passing the Four Seasons (formerly the Regent) Hotel on the left and the Circular Quay wharves and train terminal on the right.
Just after the wharves lies the Museum of Contemporary Art with access from either George St or the Quay. Here, the Sydney visitor can pass some time before proceeding further north on George. Turn left on Argyle St to The Rocks Centre on the corner of Playfair St. The Sydney Visitor Centre — where maps, colorful brochures and detailed information open up the promise of the area — is on Level 1 of The Rocks Centre.
