Although it might look a bit fierce, the frilled-neck lizard, Chlamydosaurus kingii, is actually quite harmless. You'll find a large collection of Australian fauna at Sydney Wildlife World at Darling Harbour which is within walking distance of the city centre.

You can walk to Darling Harbour, or take the monorail, or you can take a ferry from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour and alight at the jetty closest to the Sydney Aquarium.

The frilled-neck lizard gets its name from the large Elizabethan-like frill around its neck.

Australia's reptile emblem, the frilled-neck lizard was the image on the Australian 2-cent coin which has since been withdrawn from circulation, with the lowest coin denomination in Australian currency now 5 cents.

Sydney Wildlife World was opened in September 2006 and is located adjacent to the Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour.
