Queenstown Adventure

View the Lay of the Land

Queenstown adventure: Skyline gondola
Take a gondola ride to view the lay of the land

If it's your first time in Queenstown, you might want to start by familiarising yourself with the lay of the land.

It's best to get as much information as you need from a visitors centre on Shotover St. There's the government Department of Conservation information centre, the Jetboat and Bungy Centre, the Queenstown Information Centre, the Track Centre, The Station and the Visitor Information Network. All are on Shotover St.

With a map in hand, you can drive, or walk, to Brecon St and take a Skyline gondola to the observation deck 450 metres above town.

From the observation deck — and there's a coffee shop, restaurant, theatre and souvenir shop up there — view the town, Lake Wakatipu and that remarkable mountain range called The Remarkables. Remember The Remarkables for, in wintertime, this is one of your nearby places for skiing.

And, yes, to start your adrenaline going, you can do a bungy jump — after your gondola ride to the top of the hill — from The Ledge up here.

Then it's off to your other Queenstown adventures.
