Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown adventure: Tandem skydiving
If you're not ready to go it alone, go tandem skydiving

If falling from the sky or soaring through the air is more your thing, there are any number of opportunities in Queenstown to go skydiving, hang gliding or parapenting.

Juming from a plane and freefalling some distance before floating to the ground with a parachute is certainly not for the fainthearted or the unskilled.

If new to skydiving, you might want to try a tandem skydive where you're strapped to a skilled skydiver and dive — then parachute — to the ground with him.

Soar through the air with ease

Hang gliding and parapenting involve jumping off a mountainside or tall building and floating on air until you land on the ground.

Hang gliding equipment is a kind of light mono-wing kite which you fly while suspended from its underbelly. You will need to be a skilled and "certificated" hang glider to go hang gliding.

Parapenting involves the use of a light, rectangular, maneuverable parachute (called a parapente) which acts like a wing. You do not need any special skill to go tandem parapenting.

You can go tandem parapenting from the upper Skyline gondola terminal. For other venues, check with an information centre on Shotover St.
