Date palms flank this lane to the Seppelts winery in Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley. During the lean years of the Depression in the 1930s, instead of disbanding its workforce, Seppelts put its people to work on planting imported date palms on the property, which now give it a distictively Caribbean look.

Surrounded by gardens and date palms, the Seppelts complex includes a picnic and barbecue area and — who'd have thought it? — a family mausoleum.
