Yes, the Scenic Railway drops almost perpendicularly to the bottom of the Jamison Valley in the Blue Mountains shortly after it shoves off from its base at Katoomba. Railway carriages in the photograph were taken prior to the 2013 renovations.
From the valley floor you can take the six-hour walk to where the Ruined Castle rock formation begins.
The Scenic Railway closed on January 13, 2013, for renovations and reopened on April 3, just after Easter, with new platforms, tracks and carriages.
